Will My Dental Insurance Pay For Porcelain Veneers

It is rare for any dental insurance company to pay for porcelain veneers because they are considered an elective procedure. If your dentist deems them necessary for your oral health, your insurance may cover a portion of their cost. We will file any claims or paperwork with your insurance company to reduce the amount you need to pay if they are included in your coverage.

We accept several payment forms for any remaining balance. Besides traditional methods, we also accept third-party financing with CareCredit. Youre given the funds you need based on your credits approval. Youll repay the balance using a payment plan that accommodates your budget.

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Dental Veneers

Does Insurance Cover The Cost Of Porcelain Veneers? – Houston’s Dentistry by John Barras, DDS

The primary advantage of dental veneers is that they drastically improve the appearance of your teeth, and porcelain veneers in particular are stain-resistant and durable. The main drawback is that once your tooth has been prepared for a veneer, the process cant be reversed. So if veneers crack or break, theres no other option than to replace the entire veneer. Thus, this treatment isnt advisable for people who grind/clench their teeth or have poor gum health.

The Dental Crown Procedure

The dental procedure is actually quite simple, depending on the severity of your case. After being administered local anesthesia, your dentist will file down the outer layer of the tooth so the crown can comfortably fit over top, and because of this, receiving a dental crown is permanent.;

Once that layer is gone, theres no going back. But that means a lifetime of an improved smile! Next, an impression will be made of your mouth so a customized crown can be made. If they dont have CEREC technology, youll have to wait a couple of weeks to receive the permanent crown, so in the meantime, youll be supplied with a temporary crown.

After receiving a temporary crown, your dentist will supply you with aftercare instructions since it will be quite a bit different than having a permanent one. Temporary crowns are temporarily cemented in place for easy removal during your next appointment, so they can easily come out of place if you dont follow the aftercare instructions properly, such as:

  • Avoid chewing directly on that tooth, especially the same day you received it
  • Avoid foods that are chewy, hard and sticky
  • Continue to brush and floss as usual, but gently around that area

If it does become loose or falls out, you should contact your dentist as soon as possible. Another purpose of a dental crown is to keep the gap prepared for your permanent crown, so its best not to just let the tooth sit without protection.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Cosmetic Dentistry

While restorative dentistry is medically necessary, dental insurance companies consider cosmetic dentistry as elective. For this reason, dental insurance covers medically-necessary dental procedures differently than they cover cosmetic dentistry procedures. Insurance will usually cover some or all of your restorative procedures but will not cover elective procedures. However, many cosmetic dentists use restorative procedures, such as porcelain crowns, tooth veneers, and dental implants for restorative AND cosmetic purposes. So what makes a procedure restorative versus cosmetic?

Dental insurance considers a procedure restorative if:

  • Medically necessary due to decay or disease
  • Medically necessary due to accident or injury
  • Used for purposes other than aesthetics, such as to replace missing teeth or alter mechanics of the patients bite

A procedure qualifies as cosmetic or elective if:

  • The procedure exists solely for enhancing the aesthetics of the patients smile
  • The underlying tooth or tissue is not injured, impaired, or decayed
  • There is no medically necessary reason for altering the tooth or performing the procedure

Dental Services That May Be Covered By Insurance

If you have taken out dental insurance, there are many different services that it will cover, even if veneers are not included. There are many necessary services that can improve your appearance, such as fillings, teeth replacements and crowns. All of these treatments could be counted as cosmetic treatments, but most insurance companies will cover them. Of course, none are quite the same as veneers, but it is good to know all of your options.

Finding Full Coverage Dental Plans

» Does Dental Insurance Cover Veneers?

As mentioned previously, some insurance companies will not cover the initial veneer procedure but will help pay for replacement veneers. In a situation such as this, you may be in luck if your current request involves replacing older veneers. However, your situation may not have improved at all if this is your first time receiving this cosmetic service. As can be seen from this example, determining when you can obtain veneers covered by insurance involves many different parameters.

If your current health insurance program refuses to cover your dental veneer procedure, you may consider finding new dental insurance that covers everything in the near future. There are a number of dental insurance services today that provide full coverage for veneers. Although you may be required to pay a higher premium to gain access to this level of support, it could easily be worth your premium payments to receive this level of coverage. Of course, such decisions are entirely up to you and will be significantly influenced by your current financial health and your long-term insurance needs.

Preauthorization Is Your Safety Net

One of the good things about cosmetic dental work is that it is typically not urgent. This means that you can spend ample time getting your treatment pre-authorized by your insurance company. A pre-authorization estimate is an outline of who will pay for what on a particular procedure. Even if you will be paying more than you would like, you will know exactly what you are responsible for. While it is possible that things could change, a pre-authorization will be an amazing tool to leverage. And like most things in life patience, persistence and politeness will go a long way! Endure it and you wont wind up with a hefty unexpected bill.

What Is A Dental Crown

A crown, also referred to as a cap, is just that it fits over your existing tooth like a cap and can improve major cracks, chips, a badly broken or misshapen tooth, a weakened tooth after decay, or to hold a dental bridge in place. They can also be used after a root canal or to top a dental implant. Therefore, it can completely restore the strength, appearance, shape, and size of your tooth.

They can be made from a variety of different materials porcelain, ceramic, resin, or porcelain fused to metal or gold. Many dental offices now have modern technology called CEREC, that can create customized porcelain or ceramic crowns, veneers, and bridges while youre there for your appointment instead of waiting for a couple of weeks until it comes back from a lab.;

Porcelain and ceramics are very popular dental materials and have widely been used since the late 1880s because theyre so durable and can mimic the appearance of natural teeth. A porcelain dental crown can also last upwards of 15 years, following the proper oral hygiene routine. Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be used for front and back teeth and are great for people who may have metal allergies.
