What Should I Consider When Comparing Quotes For Travel Insurance For Ireland
When shopping around for your travel insurance policy, its important to compare policy prices and excess amounts .
Equally, you will want to choose a policy that includes the types and levels of cover that you need.
For example, if youre planning to take an expensive laptop and camera away with you, you should consider a policy with gadget cover thats high enough to cover the value of your items, in the event you lose them, or they are stolen.
Its best to check through a policys small print for any exclusions or limitations, to ensure it provides adequate cover, before purchasing.
Petrol/ Diesel In Ireland
There are plenty of fuel stations across Ireland. As with everywhere, you’ll find the prices slightly higher on the motorways.
Petrol is Unleaded Green handles on pump
Diesel has black or yellow handles on pump
Some places are 24h pay at the pump, but may require you to go into the shop and pay the cashier either in advance or after you’ve filled up- there will be a sign to tell you what to do.
You can pay using cash or a credit card. Many places do NOT take American Express. You can use your UK cards without a problem.

How Much Does Ireland Cost
As with any destination, how much you spend in Ireland depends a lot on your travel style. You could splash out drop hundreds of euros a night on a super posh castle hotel like this one, or you could get away with spending 12 euros a night on a hostel dorm bed.
With that said, here are some rough guidelines for how much it costs to travel Ireland:
- Bed in hostel dorm room: 15-20 euros/night
- Private room, shared AirBnB, or budget hotel: 40-60 euros/night
- Airbnb : 80-200 euros/night
- Luxury hotel: 200+ euros/night
Food and Dining
Figure 15-20 euros/day if eating at supermarkets, fast food places and street vendors, 30 euros or more if eating at restaurants.
4-6 euros for a pint of Guinness, 6+ euros for a cocktail at a bar
20-30 euros for bus or train ticket between cities, though with prices starting at just 30 euros per day, renting a car may be competitive economically .
There are many free or affordable options, including coastal walks, public performances, and more. Entrances fees for castles and sites typically range from 2 to 15 euros.
One place you definitely dont want to skimp on is travel insurance. I used World Nomads, though you can also use this site to compare hundreds of companies and find the best travel insurance provider for you.

Options To Extend Your Ireland Itineraryfrom 7 To 10 Days
While I think that the above 7 day Ireland itinerary is perfect for a good sampling of what Ireland has to offer, you certainly dont have to do what I did and there is a lot more to explore on your Ireland road trip if you want to craft your own adventure.
If you have a little more time for a 10 day Ireland itinerary, other popular destinations in Ireland include:
- Doolin and The Aran Islands A tiny village near the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin was one of my favorite places in Ireland. You can hike the cliffs from here, or use it as a base for visiting the Aran Islands, windswept islands off the coast where you can get around by pony cart.
- Belfast, Northern Ireland Take a detour up to Northern Ireland. Known as the home of the Titanic , Belfast can be used as a base to visit many Game of Thrones filming locations, as well as the beautiful Giants Causeway. Foodies will also love the many excellent Belfast restaurants to choose from.
- Cork A relatively large city by Irish standards, Cork sits along a gorgeous waterfront. From here, you can take a day trip to kiss the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle.
Know More About Ireland
Irrespective of whether you are visiting Europe for the first time or not, this Elysian island will give you an experience like none other. And contrary to popular belief, theres more to Ireland than its capital Dublin.
You really start seeing the country for what it is when you visit its verdant and enchanting villages those are the hidden treasures of this piece of heaven. You would be embraced by the cordiality of the populace, who would jovially invite you to a pint and regale folklores and captivating stories. The countryside slices through the busyness of Dublin and takes you to a wonderland of adventures and memorable experiences.

Is The Language The Same I Have Heard That There Is An Irish Language
The predominant language in the whole of Ireland is English. The Republic of Ireland also has Irish, a Gaelic language similar to Welsh or Scots, as an official language, and you will see it on signage. Irish is also gaining in popularity in Northern Ireland, although you will not usually see it written north of the border.
There are small areas of the Republic of Ireland designated as Ghaeltacht, or fully Irish-speaking areas. In these regions you may find the only signage is in Irish, and English is not commonly spoken. However, everyone is able speak English so just ask if you need help!

Is Travel Insurance Worth It
Travel insurance is a type of protection for your trip. It ensures that you will receive compensation for any unplanned expenses due to medical emergencies abroad, loss of personal items while travelling, for missed or delayed flights, or in case you have to cancel your trip.
So, if you get into an accident or become ill while youre in a foreign country and have to get medical assistance, then your travel insurance will cover the cost of your medical bills.
If you have to cancel your trip for some reason, then your travel insurance makes sure you dont lose all your money. They will reimburse you part of your pre-paid expenses, such as accommodation and flight.
If you lose your luggage or it gets stolen during your travels, then your travel insurance will reimburse you for the cost of lost items.
You can get even more coverage, such as repatriation or emergency evacuation, where your insurers cover the costs of you having to evacuate a foreign country.
Some countries demand that you have travel insurance so that you can pay for your medical expenses. In some cases, healthcare is really expensive, and tourists leaving without paying their medical bills can put a strain on the hospitals.

Ireland: Visitors Travel Insurance And Safety Tips
Its said that on St. Patricks Day, everyone claims some Irish ancestry and its not altogether untrue. An estimated 70-80 million people around the world self-identify as having Irish heritage. Add in legendary hospitality, breathtaking natural landscapes, and complex history, and its no wonder Ireland is one of the worlds most beloved destinations, equally popular with students, visitors, and independent thrill-seekers. Visiting Ireland is not without its risk so make sure you have Irish Travel Insurance before you arrive.
Its nearly as easy to travel in Ireland as it is to fall in love with it. Ireland has excellent health care and citizens of the European Economic Area and Switzerland are entitled to the same public health services as Irish citizens. Australian citizens enjoy a reciprocal health care agreement with Ireland, which means they are entitled to receive emergency public hospital treatment subject to the standard charges for non-medical cardholders in Ireland. And registered international students on an approved course of study that lasts one year or longer are also covered. But if youre not from one of these countries or groups, youll need a quality travel insurance plan to cover your travels.

Why You Might Need Travel Insurance For An Ireland Vacation
It’s helpful to begin by simply pointing out the purpose of insurance, which is to provide you with a form of protection against a possible risk.
How Much Risk Are You Willing to Take?
This varies from person to person, family to family. What is your threshold? Some people may say $1000, while others say $5000.
Another way to think of it is, If my family couldn’t go on our vacation, how would it affect us financially to lose the money we spent?
That last question puts a bit different spin on it, yes? Would you want to reschedule the trip? Or replace it with something else? If so, purchasing travel insurance would be a good idea.

Do You Need Travel Insurance To Southern Ireland
Yes, travel insurance can afford someone thousands of pounds of protection in case a trip to Southern Ireland goes wrong.
In terms of serious medical emergencies, travel insurance for Southern Ireland can be quite valuable if you become seriously ill or are injured whilst on the Emerald Isle, because the EHIC wont cover any necessary private emergency medical care deemed necessary or medical repatriation back to the UK.
For example, if you need to be flown back to the UK in an air ambulance after emergency surgery in Southern Ireland because you’re not well enough to travel on your own, travel insurance could save you thousands of pounds on repatriation expenses alone. If you want this type of protection, then you should buy travel insurance for Ireland.
UK residents have access to state provided medical treatment in Southern Ireland if necessary during a trip to Ireland. In fact, UK residents can access public health services in Ireland without a European Health Insurance Card by showing proof of UK residency. That said, the government still advises you carry a free EHIC card when you travel in Ireland and that travellers to Ireland also take out medical travel insurance.
