Geico Home Insurance Reviews
Geico is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau , but the company holds an A+ rating from the organization. However, while there are both positive and negative customer reviews on BBB, its profile shows 1 out of 5 stars from real customers.
Heres what some had to say about their experience with Geico.
Kenneth A. said:
Ive been a customer of Geico for close to 20 years. My kids have had a few accidents and they have been extremely professional and I have zero complaints about the claims they handled. Their service has been outstanding.
Douglas M. said:
I have been going back and forth with them for months. They make two different claims. A) I missed a payment. B) I made it, but they received it a day too late. When you pull out my bank statements and prove I never missed a payment, then they go to option B. Which is basically you made the payment, we kept it, but are ignoring it? When that fails, they go back to option A. After getting through to a specialist I was assured this was totally RESOLVED. Next month, its back. It gets me wondering how many 1000s they are trying this on to see if people just give up and pay them? A third excuse after all this is theyve switched you to bi-monthly without your consent or knowledge. Either way that lizard needs to be fried!
What Is Your Methodology
The average GEICO car insurance rates are based on four different driver profiles with a GEICO car insurance policy.
- Teen driver: These rates are based on profiles for 18-year-old drivers. The car used was a 2015 Honda Civic EX. We used the minimum car insurance limits in each state.
- Single adult: These rates are based on profiles for 35-year-old single adult drivers with no driving incidents in the past 3 years. The car used was a 2015 Toyota Highlander LE. Full coverage was used with 100/300/50 limits and a $500 collision and comprehensive deductible. The driver had a good credit score.
- These rates are based on a 35-year-old married couple with two drivers and two vehicles. The cars used were two 2015 Toyota Highlander LEs. Full coverage was used with 100/300/50 limits and a $500 collision and comprehensive deductible. The drivers had 1 driving incident within the past 3 years and they both have a good credit score.
- Senior driver: These rates are based on profiles for 65-year-old drivers. The car used for each was a 2015 Toyota Camry LE. Full coverage was used with 100/300/50 limits and a $500 collision and comprehensive deductible. The drivers had zero incidents within the past three years and a good credit score.
What Coverages Does Geico Offer
GEICO offers a couple of additional coverages that you can consider adding to your car insurance policy.
Roadside Assistance: GEICO offers 24/7 emergency road service coverage that you can add to your GEICO car insurance policy. This coverage includes assistance with jump starts, changing a flat tire, towing , and more.
Accident Forgiveness: Are you worried your auto insurance rate is going to skyrocket in the event you’re in an accident? GEICO offers accident forgiveness to policyholders either once you’ve qualified for free or as an additional purchase coverage option for your policy. There are some qualifications you must meet in order to buy accident forgiveness, but once you have it, any rate increase after your first accident will be wiped out so the costs of your auto insurance premiums don’t increase. Note: GEICO’s accident forgiveness isn’t available in California, Connecticut, or Massachusetts.
Below is a list of additional specialty coverages offered by GEICO, many of which are sold through other licensed insurance companies.

About Geico Home Insurance
While Geico is best known for its auto insurance, it does provide the option for customers to purchase homeowners insurance through its website and agents. However, Geico functions as a broker and matches customers with third-party home insurers through the Geico Insurance Agency. This means that a homeowners insurance policy purchased from Geico will actually be from another company.
If you already have car insurance from Geico, purchasing a homeowners policy may qualify you for an auto insurance discount. However, Geico doesnt allow you to choose the insurer youll be matched with. And, once purchased, youll have to work with the third party directly to manage your policy and file a claim so theres little convenience from bundling.
Geico Insurance: Compare Ratings Rates Discounts & Coverages
Insurance companies aren’t known for being fun, exactly. However, that’s not true of the Government Employees Insurance Company, better known as GEICO. GEICO is known as much for its entertaining commercials featuring the golden gecko with a Cockney accent as it for its low-priced insurance offerings. And GEICO’s insurance offerings are impressive. The company, which is based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, is the second-largest auto insurer in the United States, after State Farm. In 2017, GEICO provided coverage for more than 24 million motor vehicles owned by more than 15 million policyholders. GEICO writes private passenger automobile insurance in all 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C. GEICO sells its policies through local agents, called GEICO Field Representatives, over the phone directly to the consumer, and through their website.
While you can purchase homeowners and renters insurance through GEICO, these policies are actually sold through other licensed insurance companies. Since the policies are managed by GEICO, you’re still eligible for multi-policy discounts if you purchase your car and homeowners insurance through GEICO.

Geico Standard Home Insurance Coverage Plan
When you purchase a homeowner’s insurance policy through GEICO, you’re actually getting a policy through one of its partners. It’s important to note that for homeowners, renters, and condo insurance, GEICO is an insurance agency. What does this mean exactly? GEICO’s policies are underwritten by insurance companies that aren’t affiliated with GEICO. In turn, your policy might vary depending on where you live.
You can expect a standard homeowner’s insurance policy to potentially include the following:
This typically covers the cost to repair or replace damage to your house and permanently attached structures think garages and tool sheds ;due to water damage, fire, wind, and hail.
Personal Property Coverage
After a covered loss, this can help recoup the cost to repair or replace personal belongings that were damaged or stolen. Belongings that are covered include furniture, appliances, clothing, and in some cases, dishes.
Have some valuable jewelry stowed in your home? Should it get stolen, GEICOs policy offers limited coverage ranging anywhere from $500 to $2,000. You might need to opt for additional coverage for engagement rings, diamond bracelets, and wedding bands.
Should someone get injured or have their property damaged by you or your pets, should you be faced with a lawsuit, personal liability could help cover the legal costs.;;

Insurance Company Vs Insurance Agent
Insurance companies create and sell their own products, an example being GEICO auto insurance, whereas insurance agents sell insurance products for either one or several insurance companies.
An insurance company, also referred to as an insurer, is an organization that develops and distributes an insurance product for a profit. See types of auto insurance companies for more information on this. If the insurance product they sell is not profitable they have an overall loss of income for a given time period.
An insurance agent, on the other hand, sells insurance to the public for a commission, but may not have a direct tie to the amount of money made by the insurance company they represent .
Regardless of the overall profitability of the insurer they represent, the agent gets paid and is not on the hook for paying insurance claims out of the money they earn for selling the policy. Sounds pretty good, doesnt it?
Well, that may explain GEICOs latest tagline, More than just car insurance. So, can independent agents sell GEICO? As a general rule, no, but an independent agent may offer policies from the same companies that GEICOs agency offers.
