Does Nationwide Pet Insurance Have An App

What Most Plans Cover:

When Will My Pet Insurance Coverage Begin with Nationwide?

Accident-only plans will only provide reimbursement for emergency care related to accidents, like if your pet is hurt by a car or injures themselves by falling down the stairs. This type of coverage does not cover illnesses or breed-specific issues

Accident-illness plans provide coverage for both accidents and unexpected illnesses. It is the most common, as it represents about 98% of plans issued by the pet insurance industry. This type of plan wont cover preventive care or pre-existing conditions, but you can expect reimbursement for almost everything else.

Finally, you can purchase an accident-illness plan with a wellness add-on. This is the most expensive type of plan on the market, but it provides the most comprehensive level of coverage. The only health issues that arent covered pre-existing conditions.

When comparing providers you’ll want to look for the right blend of comprehsive coverage and lifetime value.

Nationwide Pet Insurance Customer Service

If youd like to contact Nationwide;Pet Insurance directly, you can do so by calling 1-800-872-7387 MondayFriday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PST or Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., EST.

So Why Hasnt Growth Happened Yet

Growth of the U.S. pet insurance market hinges on the products awareness and acceptance.

The awareness issue is readily being solved. Announcements such as Lemonades increase the products visibility substantially. As new pet insurance offerings become available, companies such as Lemonade and Zoetis pour advertising dollars into their sale. Similarly, as pet owners hear their family, friends, breeders, adoption groups, and veterinarians discuss pet insurance more, they develop a greater understanding of the products potential value in hedging financial risk.

Pet insurance acceptance is largely dependent on coverage quality and veterinary endorsement. Pet insurance companies are working hard to streamline digital enrollment experiences, improve customer support functions, and develop coverage options that align with consumer preferences. Marketplaces, like Pawlicy Advisor, also play a key role in collaborating with veterinarians to ensure the pet insurance market evolves in ways veterinarians approve.

Simply put, the product acceptance issue is also readily being solved too and the U.S. market is at an inflection point, primed for significant growth.

Quite Literally Useless App

The company I work for uses nationwide for their 401K provider and apart from their app, I’ve found them to be pretty good. That being said, I don’t know how a company this size can’t get someone to improve this app, it honestly might be the most basic, useless app I’ve ever used. I can literally only do 2 things on the app, see by balance and YTD return or see my balance and my yearly return. That’s it. I can’t see what funds I’m holding specifically in my target date fund, no graph showing growth since starting my 401K, no option to allocate my funds differently, etc… I can only see my balance and that is it. I use other brokerage apps and you can do so many things but for some reason nationwide has decided to put 0 effort into their app. I do most things on my phone like a lot of younger people and this fact alone would stop me from investing any other money I have with them but unfortunately I don’t have a choice in my 401K provider. Seriously nationwide, hire someone to make your app even a little bit useful.

How Do We Rate Nationwide Pet Insurance

From what weve uncovered, we feel that Nationwide strong-arms you into purchasing the Whole Pet with Wellness plan because its the only package that offers both prevention and illness coverage.

The lower packages are reasonably priced for the amount of coverage you get, but were not sure they cover enough to justify having pet insurance at all. And the price for the Whole Pet with Wellness plan is pretty high. We think there are better options available. To learn about your other choices, take a look at our pet insurance reviews.

Company Overview: An Industry Leader New To Pet Insurance

How to File a Claim with Nationwide Pet Insurance

Nationwide began in 1926 as a small mutual auto insurer owned by its policyholders. It has since grown to become one of the largest insurance companies in the world, offering home, auto, life, and pet insurance as well as retirement plans and specialty health services.

In 2009, Nationwide purchased Veterinary Pet Insurance and began offering pre-made pet insurance policies combined with wellness coverage plans for cats and dogs as well as pet insurance for birds and exotic animals.

Nationwide offers four pet insurance policies, all with a set $250 deductible, two with up to a 90% reimbursement, and one that offers no annual limit. Two plans offer a set dollar amount of coverage per service, so youll know exactly whats covered and whats not.

Nationwide Pet Insurance has only below-average ratings on Yelp and Consumer Affairs. Most negative reviews cite a back-and-forth experience with the company to provide documents for claims as the reason for their complaints. Positive reviews, on the other hand, state how easy Nationwide makes it to file and get reimbursed for claims.;;;;;;;;

Nationwides policies are underwritten by Veterinary Pet Insurance Company.

How To Get Lower Rates

You can save on pet insurance by enrolling when your pets are still young, as your monthly premiums are guaranteed to be lower. Some pet insurance providers will also give you a discount on your bill if you agree to make annual payments instead of monthly payments. Others offer discounts if you insure multiple pets under the same provider.

Another way to keep your premiums low is to select a higher deductible, but keep in mind that youll have to reach that deductible by paying out-of-pocket before your insurance plan begins to reimburse your veterinary costs.

Similarly, you can keep costs down if you select a lower reimbursement rate or a lower coverage limit, but this will limit the amount you receive from your insurer if your pet gets seriously ill or injured.

Do You Need Pet Insurance

If youre considering Nationwide Pet Insurance and other companies but arent ready to pull the trigger, you may be wondering whether you even need pet insurance in the first place.

While youre the only person who can make that decision, it really boils down to your comfort level with your pet and how well you think you could handle surprise veterinary bills.

If you have cash savings in the bank and would rather risk it, then having pet insurance may not be necessary.

But, you should also think about all the what ifs in life and what would really happen if your pet became ill or injured.

Could you afford to pay $5,000 or more for a surgery to save your pets life without any warning?

If youre worried you could not, a pet insurance policy could provide you with peace of mind while also ensuring your pet will get the care they need no matter what.

If you think pet insurance is a good idea, make sure to get quotes from Nationwide Pet Insurance as well as other providers.

The right policy is out there for you, but you should compare all your options in terms of their benefits, included coverage levels, and costs.

Pros And Cons Of Nationwide Pet Insurance

Before you buy a pet insurance policy, its smart to consider all the advantages and disadvantages of companies you are considering.

This is especially true in the pet insurance world since there are many pet insurance providers to compare before you buy a policy.

Here are the biggest pros and cons of Nationwide and their policy offerings:

Deductibles Claims And Policy Terms

Summer is Sting Season” – Milo’s Anaphylaxis Story from Nationwide Pet Insurance

It’s important to understand a policy’s deductible, reimbursement rate, maximum payout limit, waiting peroids, and exclusions before enrolling.

Your deductible is what you need to pay before your provider will reimburse any eligible expenses.

For example, if you had a $200 deductible on a plan with a 90% reimbursement rate and your cat needed a $1,400 dental extraction… you’d ultimately save $1,080 .

Your maximum payout limit will either be “per-incident” or as an “annual limit“.

The best plans are annual limits, and many offer unlimited payouts. This means you need to meet your deductible each year, but once you do the ammount the payout is potential unlimited. Considering how many older pets develop cancer, having an unlimmited max payout can be a lifesaver.

Yourwaiting period determines when your coverage kicks in. Be aware that different plans/providers have diferent waiting periods, and they can even vary by condition – so it’s import to read the fine print.

For example, two different plans might look almost identical until you look into the fine print and find that one has a 12 month waiting period for knee injuries where as the other’s is only 30 days. If you have a larger dog who more prone to knee injuries, you most certainly would not want the plan whose knee injury coverage takes 12 months to kick in.

Key Factors that affect your cost:

  • Size
  • Plan type
  • Policy provider

Routine Costs Every Pet Parent Has To Budget For

The ASPCA estimates dog parents spend approximately $355 to $650 annually on food, toys, treats, and other miscellaneous expenses depending on the size, breed, and location of their animals.

Infrequent purchases such as crates, carrier bags, and cages can cost an additional $470 to $560. In total, the first-year costs of owning dogs and cats are approximately $1,000 to $2,000.

Meanwhile, the average cost for a routine veterinary checkup or wellness visit can cost anywhere from $50 to $250. Vaccines are pretty affordable. Youll likely pay about $100 for a dogs core vaccines, for example.

NOTE: Reoutine care, wellness visits, and vaccines arent what you need to be concerned with when it comes to your pets vet costs.

If your pet comes down with an illness, or if your vet discovers something amiss at a regular checkup, you can expect your vet bills to go up substantially.

The biggest costs come from unexpected emergencies and surgeries – which is where pet insurance can be a literal lifesaver.

How Much Does Pet Insurance Cost In General

We mentioned already how Nationwide offers some of the most affordable pet insurance policies out there, but the price youll pay for coverage still varies a lot based on the type of pet you have and the coverage level you choose.

There are two plans available from Nationwide:

  • Whole Pet + Wellness Unlimited annual maximums, $100 deductible, and 90% reimbursement
  • Major Medical Unlimited annual maximums, $250 deductible, and a set benefit schedule
  • Consider these quotes for pet insurance we received from the Nationwide website if you want a general idea:

    $82.18 per month$27.47 per month

As you can see, Major Medical coverage with Nationwide is affordable no matter your pet or its age.

However, its important to note how these plans reimburse you based on a set fee schedule.

With the set benefit schedule, there is a set cap on reimbursement based on the condition without regard to the treatment cost.

As a result, these plans may not be nearly as comprehensive as the coverage you wish to buy.

If you prefer to have full coverage regardless of how much your veterinary office charges you, make sure you buy a Whole Pet policy that reimburses at 90% instead of a set fee schedule.
