How To Get A Healthy Paws Policy
Getting a Healthy Paws policy is easy. Just visit the companys website and input your pets name, breed, age, and location. After entering this information, youll be offered a policy quote.
You can then customize your plans reimbursement rate and deductible amount to get the coverage amount and premium you desire.
Next, youll need to provide some additional contact information and confirm the date of your pets last vet exam. You can then enter your payment information and initiate your policys waiting period.
Note that when you initially sign up, you may have to pay a one-time sign-up fee of $25. This fee is not charged in every state.
We Don’t Raise Rates Just Because Your Pet Has A Birthday
Trupanion is unique because we are one of the only pet medical insurance company to always use your pets age at enrollment to determine your policys price.
In most states Healthy Paws, like all other pet health insurance companies besides Trupanion, use what is called birthday pricing.
Birthday pricing means that an insurer is likely to automatically raise your rates when a pet has a birthday, on top of any rate changes for inflation or other factors.
If your pet has a Trupanion policy, in our eyes they will always be the age they were when they enrolled.
For example, if your dog enrolls when theyre 8 weeks old, well price them as an 8-week old for their entire life. Theyll be a puppy foreverboth in your heart and your monthly cost.
When it comes to pricing, Trupanion is different. We know medical insurance is for the life of your pet, so we share the risk with all responsible, loving pet owners like you that enroll their pets at the same age, regardless if they enrolled last month or last decade.
Now, we arent saying that your rates will never change if you enroll with Trupanion. Like Healthy Paws or other companies, we too must increase or decrease rates due to changes in the cost of veterinary care.
During your time as a Trupanion member, your monthly payment will go up or down based upon the underlying costs of all pets within your sub-categories. Thats how we share the risk fairly among all Trupanion members.
Competition: Healthy Paws Vs Petplan
We compared Healthy Paws to Petplan which also offers basic accident and illness insurance, customizable policies, and no available wellness plan. Side-by-side, Petplan appears to offer the same coverage as Healthy Paws for a bit more per month. When you dig deeper, however, youll see that you get a lot more for your money with Petplan.
Not only does Petplan cover non-wellness exams and office visits, which are excluded in Healthy Paws policies, Petplan also covers boarding when you’re hospitalized and virtual visits.
Overall, if youre looking for basic accident and illness coverage, we think its worth paying a little extra for what Petplan offers.
|Any licensed vet in the U.S.||Any licensed vet in the U.S.and Canada|
On the whole, we werent all that impressed with Healthy Paws compared to many other providers that offered basic accident and illness insurance.;Although the companys premiums are impressive for a plan with no annual limits, its lack of optional coverage options makes it lag behind its competitors, based on our;methodology. At the very least, we would like to have had the option to add coverage for exam fees and vet visits. A few other coverage riders for boarding, trip cancelation, cremation and burial, and wellness coverage would also benefit pet owners.

Who Owns Healthy Paws
Healthy Paws began as Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation back in 2009, and is co-founded by Steve Siadek and Rob Jackson . They met through a local, no-kill animal shelter. Steve had left a corporate career to pursue his pet passion and become the shelters executive director. Rob, an insurance executive, adopted his dogs from the shelter and kept coming back to foster more.
History Of Healthy Paws Pet Insurance

I Got Pet Insurance For My New Pup
I got pet insurance for my new pup almost 4 years ago on a friend’s recommendation. I am so very thankful for having found Healthy Paws. My girl had a luxated patella in November and had to have a major orthopedic surgery. She also has arthritis in that knee and her opposite hock. I just found out she has elbow dysplasia in both front legs and had a CT scan last week, so may be looking at more surgery.Through it all, Healthy Paws has been there answering my questions and enabling me to make these treatment decisions without having to balk over the cost. They have excellent and responsive customer service who really care, The claim submission is so quick and painless via the app and the claim processing has been unbelievably quick with direct deposit the following day. I have nothing but good things to say about this company and the people. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
Our Rating For Healthy Paws Pet Insurance
We gave Healthy Paws a score of 93.5 out of 100, awarding points for its overall performance, impressive coverage cap, and reputation.
Healthy Paws stands out for its standard plan that includes unlimited claim payoutsthis is a unique feature as most pet insurance providers have per-incident, annual, or lifetime coverage caps.
We deducted points because the company doesnt offer wellness or routine care options or plan customizability.
We recommend this company to pet parents who dont want to worry about exceeding their annual coverage maximum on expensive vet bills and dont mind paying a bit extra per month for some of the most comprehensive coverage on the market.

Competition: Healthy Paws Vs Figo
Figo is another pet insurer that chooses to offer one core accident and illness policy, although an optional rider can be purchased to cover exam fees. When we compared plans that included unlimited benefits with 90% coverage and a low $100 deductible, we found that Figo was several dollars cheaper per month. In addition to a lower premium, Figo offers shorter waiting periods, more coverage choices, and reimbursement for a few additional services like behavioral treatment and end-of-life expenses. Figo is the clear winner in this scenario.
Healthy Paws makes pet insurance simple with one policy and few details to worry about. Some pet owners may prefer the streamlined purchasing process, while others will be disappointed by a lack of control over the amount and type of coverage. Before getting a quote from Healthy Paws, make sure the coverage offered lines up with your pet’s needs, and dont be afraid to shop around for the best price.

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance
After years of recommending Healthy Paws Pet Insurance , I now have to say STAY AWAY!
I am not sure what happened but the 1 claim I made for my boy since 2017 was a nightmare. 10 days turned into a month. Sent them all the records from both vets. Asked for status at day 10, got canned response “working on it”. 3 days later, I asked again then again at day 19, no response either time not even a canned response. Asked again at day 21, their response was to tell me they needed more records including ALL his records for the entire time I’ve had him . They’ve had all these records since the 2017 claim. I sent them all his records from 2013 to date which was only going towards deductible. It wasn’t like they were giving me any $.
Took a MONTH before they approved my claim which was about 2 weeks before his policy renewal.
The premium for for both dogs went up by $60/mo. My boy has had 2 claims, 1 in 2017 and the other this year. My girl has had none.
I went online and changed her policy to up the deductible to bring policy price down. They apparently didn’t do it because they took out the higher figure .
I went back online and did an “email us” asking why the premium wasn’t adjusted. 4 days later, the response was “We can’t find a policy under that name. Please provide more information.”
I was on their site under her name!
