Find out more here.

  • When you apply for a policy you need to tell us where you are travelling to. The premium you pay for the policy depends on your destination. The policy only covers loss, injury or illness which occurs in the countries you have told us you will visit. If you’re travelling to multiple countries around Europe, you need to nominate the countries when you are applying for cover. If youre going on a cruise, you must select the appropriate cruise region for where you are travelling and pay an additional premium for travel on a cruise vessel by purchasing the Cruise Pack. If you don’t purchase a cruise pack, you won’t be covered while on the ship. There is, however, no cover under any sections of the policy when you are on a cargo ship or freighter.

Prague is brimming with history and has some fascinating museums to explore. Try the National Film Museum or the National Gallery for starters. Kids of all ages will love the Lego Museum, and even the Apple Museum which has more than 450 Apple products from 1976 to the present time.

More unusual museums that may be more popular among bachelor parties in Prague include the Sex Machines Museum, the Czech Beer Museum and the Slivovitz Museum with plum brandy tasting. Take your pick and decide which ones you fancy for a respite from the weather outside!

Things To Do In Prague In Winter: Take A Prague Tour

Walking tours of Prague continue throughout the year, and as long as you wrap up warm it is well worth exploring Prague on foot. You can arrange walking tours with Prague City Tourism for 300 CZK or you could try a Prague free walking tour or even a Ghost Tour! Literature fans should also check out this tour where you can learn about Franz Kafka and his relationship to Prague.

I had a tour of the Old Town Hall arranged by Prague City Tourism which was fascinating you can go and take a look around for free, but the paid tour takes you to other areas including the cellars downstairs.

Where To Eat In Prague Old Town

Prague Czech Republic

After spending countless hours walking and taking your Instagram-worthy pictures around the cobblestone streets in the Old Town, its time for enjoying some delicious food in Prague. However, a lot of restaurants in the Old Town are overpriced and disappointing.

There are a few cheaper, local restaurants though try Havelska Koruna for a cafeteria-style meal, where you queue up at the counter and the ladies serve you a plate of what you fancy from the dishes on offer. Super cheap, but there isnt always spare tables, so be prepared to share, or stand! A bit further out of the Old Town, Lokál Dlouhááá gets great reviews.

If you fancy a snack, the trdelnik chimney cake of the Old Town is a sweet treat coated in cinnamon and sugar the best way to get an energy boost for more exploring although it isnt a traditional food from Prague it is everywhere! You can even splurge on one filled with ice-cream and Nutella, although it will set you back about 5.

Top 10 Tourist Attractions In Czech Republic

  • Prague Castle â In the city’s HradÄany neighbourhood, the castle housed Holy Roman Emperors, the Habsburgs, Bohemian kings, and, more recently, the Czech Republic’s President. The largest in the world in terms of area, itâs key highlights include beautiful St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George’s Basilica, the Powder Tower, and the Golden Lane with its medieval workshops.
  • Äeský Krumlov Castle – Much of what stands today in this UNESCO World Heritage Site stems from the 17th century, including the Rosenberg Ballroom and the Renaissance Hall, the Royal Apartments, and the Chapel of St. George. Also worth seeing is the castle’s old Baroque theater, built in 1682, which is still used for special performances.
  • Charles Bridge, Prague – The spectacular bridge spans the River Vltava and was built in 1357 and has many unique points of interest along its 520-meter span, including numerous fine statues.
  • Cathedral of St Peter & Paul, Bron – Rebuilt as a Gothic cathedral during the 18th century, the interior is a Baroque masterpiece designed by architect MoÅic Grimm. Some of its most remarkable features are the Kapistránka pulpit and the crypt, which is home to not only tombs but the remnants of Brno’s original city walls.
  • Find David Cernys Sculptures

David Cerny is one of Pragues most popular contemporary artists. Hes known for creating these large public and sometimes controversial sculptures throughout the city.

Pictured below is a sculpture of Sigmund Freud called Hanging Out. Its attached to the roof of a building and hangs about 20 meters over Husova Street in the Old Town.

I spent an afternoon visiting as many of Cernys sculptures as I could find. I located nine, most of which are in the historical Prague 1 district. You can read my article on David Cerny for more pictures and information.

    Where To Stay In Prague

Old Town Prague is certainly the most popular place to stay in Prague, where you can step out of the front door and immediately be immersed in the beautiful architecture and the buzz of Prague. However, staying slightly out of the centre can get you more bang for your buck, if you dont mind walking a bit further to see the sights.

    Women Travelers Risk : Low

PRAGUE, Czech Republic – 3rd Leg | Central Europe Travel Series

Taking into account the fact that Prague is very safe for women travelers, it is the perfect destination for a first solo trip. Women do not have to worry about being harassed when walking around. Another advantage is that it is easy to navigate so you would not get lost and end up in the wrong part of town.

Getting From Prague Airport To Prague City Centre

Unfortunately, there arent any direct connections to the city. Considering you only have 2 days in Prague, the quickest way to get into town is by taxi, or with a cheaper prepaid transfer to your hotel.

The slower budget option is to take the bus 119 and then get off at the metro stop Depo Hostivar to take a metro connection into the city centre. The public transport tickets in Prague work on length of time, as well as zones, so from the airport you would need a 90-minute ticket over 4 zones, which is currently 32 CZK.

When you have bought your ticket, make sure you validate it as you get onto the bus. When you transfer to the metro, as long as you are still within the 90 minutes, you dont need to buy another ticket, just keep hold of the one you have.

Depending on where youre staying, you get can off at one of three different metro stops:

    1) Mustek A Wenceslas Square area

    2) Staromestska Old Town

    3) Malostranska Malá Strana or Lesser Town

When arriving late at night, the trip to the city takes 2 hours since public transport is less frequent, so in that case, Id definitely suggest a taxi or transfer.

No Need To Pay On The Spot With Your Ehic

When you present your European Health Insurance Card , healthcare providers in other countries know that the invoice will be paid by CZ. It is sent directly to us, meaning that, in most cases, you do not have to pay the invoice up front and claim the costs back later. The front of the card is identical to a regular CZ healthcare card, but the back is blue, making it easy to identify.

    Where To Meet Locals

The locals in Prague dont have much of a reputation for being overly friendly with tourists. They are not much for small talk, like, say, in Italy. Additionally, some people feel shy about making conversation in English.

However, some alternative ways to meet locals can be by going on walking tours, signing up for pub crawls, staying in hostels, and so on.

Of course, you can always get a drink at the bar and say hi to the person sitting next to you! This may not always work but if it doesnt, no harm no foul!

These are just a few tips for meeting locals while traveling as well as other travelers.

    Beware The Crafty Pickpocket

    Prague in Summer

In metropolitan areas, you should safeguard your belongings as pickpockets are common. Theyre pros at what they do and you should make an effort not to be their easiest target. An open tote bag worn over your shoulder can be easily violated. The same goes for wallets stuck in back pockets and cell phones in open jacket pockets.

A cross-body bag with multiple zippers, worn towards the front of your body, offers much more protection. Another method of pickpocket defense is gear from travel specialists like Tilley Endurables, whose products contain secret hidden pockets. However, for the best protection of all, dont put all your cash in the same place. Split your spending money between your wallet, your money belt, and a secret compartment in your main bag. And when someone approaches you with a petition or a map realize that theres a good chance that theyre really working a pickpocketing angle.
