Your network is VSP, one of the nationâs largest providers of vision care. Although your plan will still share the cost if you get your vision care out of network from an eye doctor that doesnât take VSP, youâll pay more.
Unlike dental care, youâll have a copay for some services. But you wonât have a deductible for vision care.
Example Of Vision Insurance
The largest vision insurance provider in the United States is VSP Vision Care. Founded in 1955 by a group of optometrists, VSP currently has 88 million members and more than 40,000 doctors in its network.
VSP Vision offers two types of plans: Standard and EasyOptions. For the Standard plan, depending on your zip code, monthly premiums start at just $13 with an eye exam copay of $15, covering up to $150 in new frames. While it does not cover LASIK, you can receive a coupon for an average of 15% off of your services.
The EasyOptions plan is a bit more expensive at around $24 per month. This plan has all the same benefits as the Standard but allows members to customize their benefits package by allocating more money towards the products they use more often.

What Is Dental Insurance
Dental insurance provides a range of coverage for various dental procedures including preventive care and more involved services like fillings, crowns, and root canals. Like other types of insurance, dental insurance requires you to pay a monthly insurance premium, and you may also pay an annual or lifetime deductible as well as copayments when you visit a dentist for care.

If you haven’t had an FSA before, you need to estimate how much to contribute, because your employer will need you to designate an amount that you want deducted from your pre-tax pay this year.
FSAs have a use-it-or-lose-it feature, whereby if you don’t use the money within the year it is contributedor during a short grace period afterwardyou lose the money. Is Vision Insurance Worth It
The American Optometric Organization recommends adults ages 18 to 64 get a vision exam every two years unless they have a risk of ocular disease or work in a job that is visually demanding. In those cases, annual eye exams are recommended. So, your relative health can determine if vision insurance is worth having, especially if you dont have insurance through your workplace.
According to FAIR Health, a nonprofit that collects information about healthcare costs, an eye exam can cost between $128 and $200, depending on if youre a new or established patient. Of the companies we reviewed, the average exam copay is $20 a month. These monthly premiums add up to a yearly cost of $60 to $180, so getting your annual exam pays for the insurance.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, vision insurance saves you even more. Typically, an insurer provides an allowance that covers the entire cost of frames, lenses or contacts. You pay anything beyond that cost, though many offer a discount on the remainder. You can also get glasses online, which are often more affordable than those at the doctors office.
